What are my silver items worth?
The value of your silver is based on two things: the weight and the fineness (purity).
- Work silver (830): Common in older table silver, cutlery, platters and candle holders. Contains 83% silver.
- Sterling Silver (925): Standard for jewelry. Contains 92.5% silver.
- Fine silver (999): Investment bars and certain coins. 99.9% pure silver.

The Cat's Foot stamp and other silver stamps
To know if your cutlery is real silver, look for the 'Cat's Foot' stamp (three crowns in a shield) or numeric stamps like '830', '800' or '925'. If it says 'ALP', 'NS' or 'Prima Silver', it is usually nickel silver (silver-plated metal) which unfortunately has no significant metal value. Unsure? Send it to us for a free analysis. If it's not silver, we can return it or recycle it for you, depending on your preference.
