Selling Coins & Bars

Investing in gold coins and gold bars is a classic way to preserve capital. But what happens when you want to sell? At MittGuld, we make it easy to turn your investment gold and silver into cash at market-leading prices, quickly and without middlemen.

What do we buy?

We buy all types of coins and bars, regardless of condition. Some of the most common ones we see are:

Gold coins: Krugerrand (1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz), American Gold Eagle, Canadian Maple Leaf, Vienna Philharmonic, ducats, and Swedish gold coins (e.g. 10 and 20 kronor in gold from Oscar II and Gustaf V).

Silver coins: American Silver Eagle, Canadian Silver Maple Leaf, Austrian Silver Philharmonic, Swedish commemorative coins, and old Swedish silver coins (e.g. 1-krona and 2-krona struck in silver before 1968).

Bars: Gold bars and silver bars in all sizes and from all manufacturers (e.g. Boliden, Credit Suisse, Heraeus, PAMP Suisse, Perth Mint).

How are coins and bars valued?

Investment gold and silver are valued based on their precious metal weight and karat purity, directly linked to the current spot price on the international market (LBMA). Many popular coins, like the Krugerrand, are alloyed (22K) for durability but always contain exactly 1 Troy Ounce (31.1035 grams) of pure gold. We pay for the exact gold or silver content, and no deductions are made for ordinary wear or minor damage.

Collector and numismatic value

Most coins we buy are investment coins valued for their metal content (melt value). However, some coins can have a collector or numismatic value that exceeds their melt value:

Older Swedish coins: Coins from the 17th and 18th century, or rare mintage years, can have historical collector value beyond the gold.

Proof and commemorative coins: Mirror-polished proof versions of famous coins are struck in limited editions and may be more valuable to collectors.

Mint errors and rarities: Coins with known errors or extremely low mintage can be sought after by collectors.

If you think your coin may have collector value beyond the metal price, we recommend contacting a numismatic specialist before selling. For the vast majority of gold coins and silver coins, however, the spot price is the only relevant value.
