Selling Platinum and Palladium

Do you have jewelry in platinum or palladium? We buy and value these exclusive metals.

Selling Platinum and Palladium

Platinum and palladium are two of the most exclusive and rare precious metals in the world – approximately 30 times rarer than gold and requiring complex mining and refining processes. Do you have jewelry in these metals? We at MittGuld help you sell them at the right price.

Platinum (Pt) – the heaviest precious metal

Platinum is heavier and denser than gold (density approx. 21.4 g/cm³ compared to gold's 19.3 g/cm³), which means a platinum piece of jewelry feels noticeably heavier in the hand. The metal is naturally white and retains its luster virtually forever without needing rhodium plating – unlike white gold, whose rhodium coating wears away over time.

Platinum is extremely hard and durable, making it the ideal material for diamond settings – the prongs hold the stone more securely and platinum doesn't wear down in the same way as gold. It is also hypoallergenic and rarely irritates sensitive skin.

Common stamps: '950Pt', '900Pt', 'Pt950', 'Plat', or simply 'Pt'. Pieces with less than 850 parts per thousand platinum may generally not be called platinum in Europe.

Palladium (Pd) – the lightweight alternative

Palladium belongs to the platinum group metals (PGM) and shares many of platinum's properties – naturally white color, high corrosion resistance, and hypoallergenic qualities – but is significantly lighter (density approx. 12.0 g/cm³). This makes palladium popular for jewelry that should feel light and comfortable to wear.

Palladium is widely used as an alloy metal in white gold (palladium white gold requires no rhodium plating at all), but pure palladium jewelry (stamped '950Pd' or 'Pd') has become increasingly common since the metal gained official precious metal status in many countries.

Palladium's price history is notably volatile – it was long cheaper than gold, surged dramatically to record highs around 2021 (partly driven by automotive industry demand for catalytic converters), and has since stabilized. We always pay the current market price.

How are platinum and palladium valued?

Just like gold, platinum and palladium are valued based on the exact weight multiplied by the current spot price on the world market (LBMA/Kitco). Because it can be visually impossible to tell white gold, platinum, and palladium apart – they all look the same – we always analyze these pieces with our XRF X-ray. Within seconds, we see exactly which metal (or mixture of metals) the piece consists of and can give you a transparent, precise, and fair offer.

If you have a white gold piece with a palladium alloy, we identify the palladium content and pay extra for it, in addition to the gold value.
